WE TAKE DEWORMING SERIOUSLY. All our dogs on our property are dewormed monthly. Our poodles have large pea gravel runs for daily use that we are able to bleach and clean every week. Poodles are out with us and supervised at all times. All stool is picked up immediately, never allowed to sit on the ground, and urine spots are washed promptly. If we plan for a litter, our pregnant dams are dewormed on day 40 of their pregnancy, in addition to all the monthly deworming we practice. Then when litters are born, we begin deworming mother and puppies starting week two and every week until week 12, then monthly. Every dog in our kennel is dewormed at the same time. We use Fenbendazole and Pyrantel Pamoate for worms. For preventative parasite control we use Fenbendazole for Giardia and Toltrazuril for Coccidia during the winter months only. We also use natural deworming methods year round for all type of worms and parasites. All bedding is washed every single week without fail and sometimes every day if necessary.
Young puppies do not leave our property until they have had their first vaccine at 9-10 weeks. We then give the final puppy vaccine at 16 weeks if that puppy is still on our property. We do not give annual boosters for puppy vaccines. We give only the Canine Spectra 5-1 vaccines. There is no scientific proof regarding when the mother's natural antibodies stop providing immunity. therefore if vaccinated at 6 or 8 weeks and the mother's antibiodies are still active, the puppy's immune system will simply work overtime and kick out the vaccine just given. This hyper stimulates the puppy's immune system. Then the same occurs at 12 - 14 weeks because there is no proven research done as to when the mother's immunity leaves the young puppy. This is why we wait as long as possible and give the last vaccine at 16 weeks. We start to rehome only after the puppy has had its first vaccines.
Rabies vaccines are given according to local country, state or federal rules.
We do not used any pill or topical flea or tick medicine on any of our dogs as we keep our dogs and our property clean at all times. We do not go to dog parks or pet stores with our poodles. When attending a dog show that is outdoors, we use natural flea and tick repellant on our poodles such as neem oil and lavender essential oil. Any dog returning from a dog show or a road trip is immediately bathed and dewormed and separated for a short time from other poodles.
Our litters are born upstairs away from all other adult dogs and stay with us in our great room and kitchen well past their 10th week. Puppies are never allowed to face-to-face adults other than their mother and start working with appropriate leader poodles who are proven and well-balanced well past their 12th week or beyond. Puppies start nail trims at 2 weeks and begining at 3 weeks of age they are bathed weekly and groomed on a table experiencing a forced air dryer.
