"Why breeders may perceive some buyers as ruthless

• Entitled and demanding behavior. Some buyers behave as if they are entitled to a new puppy on their terms, ignoring the breeder's screening process, contracts, or waitlists. This contrasts with the time, effort, and emotional investment responsible breeders put into each litter.
• Impatience and unrealistic timelines. After paying a deposit, some buyers demand constant, personalized updates. They often do not understand that responsible breeding is not a fast-moving business and that waiting is part of the process for a well-bred puppy.
• Focus on aesthetics over welfare. Some buyers are fixated on superficial traits like a specific coat color, ignoring the breeder's focus on health, temperament, and ethical breeding. Asking for a "custom-made" puppy can be frustrating for responsible breeders.
• Disregard for long-term responsibility. Breeders screen potential buyers to ensure their puppies go to suitable, permanent homes. Buyers who fail to plan for the time, money, and commitment of dog ownership, or who show red flags like a history of rehoming pets, are a major concern.
• Treating the puppy as a commodity. Some buyers prioritize the "deal" over the dog, focusing only on price or demanding discounts. This can devalue the immense investment of time and care that a breeder puts into their animals.    

Why some buyers act ruthlessly

• Fear of scams and fraud. Many puppy buyers are wary of being scammed by online sellers and backyard breeders. They may act defensively and aggressively when they feel the breeder is hiding something, such as health information or photos of the parents.
• Negative past experiences. A buyer who was previously sold a sick puppy from a bad breeder or pet store may be overly suspicious and demanding with subsequent breeders. They may scrutinize contracts and paperwork to avoid another negative experience.
• Unfamiliarity with responsible breeding practices. Many people who have never worked with a reputable breeder may have inaccurate expectations. They might be used to the quick transactions of pet stores and get frustrated with the longer, more involved process of an ethical breeder.
• Emotional desperation. In some cases, buyers can become desperate to acquire a puppy, especially if they have been on a long waitlist or have fallen in love with a puppy from online pictures. This can lead to impatient or pushy behavior.
• The "cute puppy" effect. Many buyers fall in love with the idea of a puppy from social media and don't see the reality of raising one. Their romanticized vision is a set-up for disappointment, and their intense emotional investment can lead to ruthless actions if things don't go as planned. "

The above statements came directly from a simple Google search and Google's AI produced those statements.  They do seem to reflect what we have experienced from some puppy buyers and in talking with other fellow Standard Poodle breeders, what they too have experienced.  

The last puppy buyers we hosted in our house terrorized us, threatened to kill us, posted false and damaging reviews and changed forever how we will go forward with the general public because they were angry the puppy buying process for taking too long.

We believe there are good people out there who love this breed and love what we are doing but if you are not interested in how we feed or raised our poodles and you are in a hurry to purchase a dog, please refrain from contacting us.  

If you are the type of person that feels it's your right to damage our reputation or attempt to ruin our online image because you don't like being turned down for a puppy or you have emotional issues, mental health issues or just misdirected anger and tend to act out towards others, we ask that you refrain from contacting us.

We are not going to text you back and forth regarding what a Standard Poodle is like or give into your demands for daily photos.  This type of behavior that we have experienced is unacceptable.  We are not tied to our devices, we are working with our poodles all day long.  We also prefer to speak by phone, not by text.  This doesn't mean we do not text or that we do not enjoy texting about our puppies, or that we won't text you photos because we love to show off the puppies, but when puppy buyers show demanding behavior, we no longer find this acceptable.  Think about your behavior before you get angry with us or any breeder.  If you esclate your behavior to threats we will act accordingly.

We do not accept deposits.   The price for our puppies is $2,000 for limited registration and you are expected to pay for the puppy in full when you make the decision to purchase the poodle.  We have puppy buyers who have come to our home, viewed the parents, spent considerable time with us about our dogs, our breeding practices, health testing and never once had any issues buying the puppy.   Those puppy buyers will be happy to let you call and talk to them, just ask us and we can set that up for you.  

If you lie about your house, your circumstances or your intentions about how you will take care of a puppy or how you will related to us in future we reserve the right to refuse to sell you a puppy.

We are not looking for puppy buyers who are just curious about the breed, there are plenty of resources online for that.  Know what you want in your poodle, look at our photos, videos and health testing and pick up the phone and talk to us.   Don't make comments about other breeders to us or why you don't want to call on the local well-known Standard Poodle breeders.  If you need the parents to all have AKC or UKC Championship and docked tails, dew claws removed, then find a breeder who fits all your requirements.  Do your due diligence and make the right choice for yourselves, we reserve the right to do the same.

If you don't want one of our puppies, that's fine with us.  We know there are plenty of options and good Standard Poodle breeders here in Washington for you to choose from.  Remember you can afford to be honest and respectful at all times and we will show you the same manners.
